Unseen Gems of the Gaming World

New games enter the market all the time but not all of them receive the fanfare they deserve, be it when it is first released or after people have played it. Here are some really good games that may not have caught many people’s attention at first but deserve more hype.

Shadows Over Loathing

Shadows Over Loathing

The sequel to the better known yet still relatively obscure game called West of Loathing made by Asymmetric. In the game you search for cursed artifacts and your Uncle Murray with a character that you can name and somewhat customize. This game is full of mayhem, silliness, and peak comedy alongside many mysteries, puzzles, and lore to discover. The best part is that with many different possible playstyles and endings there is plenty of replayability value. I just recently picked up this game and it has been a blast. Even replaying the game from the beginning the jokes are still hilarious and just a few alternative choices can make a world of difference.

Chess Evolved Online

Chess Evolved Online

This is an online multiplayer chess game that features over 500 different chess pieces and allows you to arrange them however you want within your space on the board. Chess Evolved Online allows you to come up with a vast number of strategies and pits you against similarly varying strategies. Though it is still in active development I have spent many hours over many years experimenting with the many possible strategies alone and I have spent even more time in PvP challenges.

Darq

Darq

A spooky 2D platformer where the player rotates the 3D map through various methods but most often by walking off of ledges or into walls. There are also many frightening foes that you must make your way past in order to progress. All in all Darq has plenty of fascinating mechanics to discover. I spent several hours playing through this one and though it did get challenging at times I at no point felt the need to resort to walkthroughs to proceed.

Crying Suns

Crying Suns

A sci-fi tactical roguelite where you explore a cosmos that has fallen into chaos after the fall of an intergalactic empire. You form expedition teams to explore the surfaces of planets along the way and engage in frantic turn based combat around every corner. With every run you will gain more insight into the game’s story and start with more gameplay options. Though this game can become a tad frustrating and repetitive I always find myself coming back for more.

Sunless Sea

In this game you pilot a steamship across the seas of fallen London trying to stay alive and sane from one island to the next fighting sea monsters and sometimes your own crew as you travel from island to island. You can even pass down the resources you gathered in one run to your new captain once your current captain dies, which will happen a lot. If that does not sate your thirst for adventure then there is even an expansion pack that allows you to turn your ship into a submarine and explore the wonders and horrors beneath the surface.

The games I have presented are but a handful of the many fun games that may not be getting the attention they deserve. If there is a really fun game you want to share that you think has not gotten the attention it deserves write about it in the comments below someone might just find their favorite game amongst your suggestions.
